WAVEMACHINE

WAVEMACHINE is a poetry and performance series in San Francisco, CA. It began in New Haven, CT in 2012 and took place briefly in Brooklyn, NY in 2019 before resuming in the Bay Area in 2024.

We are thrilled to invite you to our last machine before summer break—

This machine will be fundraising for two organizations: Annunciation House in El Paso, an organization and house of sanctuary that advocates and cares for refugees and immigrants on the US-Mexico border, and Mount Tamalpais College, the prison education program at San Quentin (f.k.a. the Prison University Project). Follow these links to learn more about each organization and donate online.

You can read more about us in The New Yorker and The Yale Daily News. See a recording of Keston Sutherland and Geoffrey G. O’Brien reading for the series at the Boston Review. Black-and-white posters by Adam Douglas Thompson. Color posters by Chika Ota.

Unless otherwise specified, our events take place in the backyard of our home in Bernal Heights. The yard is wheelchair accessible and there’s a first floor bathroom, but the house is on a steep slope. If you have questions about accessibility or need help with accommodations, please send me an email or a DM on Instagram. Bring drinks and snacks for friends.

Street parking is available in our neighborhood, though you may need to park on a hill and/or walk a few streets. You can also get bus service from the Glen Park and 24th St BART stops; the 67, 24, 23, and 8 run near us. If you’re driving, I recommend looking for parking on Tompkins Ave east of Putnam, plus on Jarboe, Nevada and Prentiss. If you’re having trouble finding parking on streets near us, there are almost always spots free around Holly Park—we’re a 10 min walk from there (& you’ll get to use the Tompkins Stairs).
